Influence of Biaxial Geogrid at the Ballast Interface for Granular Earth Railway Embankment

The development of reinforcements for soil has made an impact in most the civil engineering sectors especially transportation. use geogrids is frequent roadways but they are also finding railways. major that could have providing desired stiffness to a section by reducing material and serving as proper reinforcement material. In current study, attempt been redesign railway embankment economically with help geogrids. Biaxial geogrid used substitute blanket layer (thickness up 100 cm) fulfilling strain modulus requirement embankment, calculated using plate bearing test per DIN 18134. experiment performed on replicated metallic chamber granular subgrade placed beneath ballast. experimental study validated 3-D numerical model Midas GTS NX software. analysis shows improvement 31.47% second earth embankment. For implementation this design Indian railways adopted. With geogrid, reduction 50% observed height, thereby overall costs.
